The Mountain Pine Beetle

The mountain pine beetles are a huge problem in Colorado's pine forests, since they have affected almost a million acres of land in just Colorado.  The beetle affects the pine tree because it transmits a bluestain fungus to the tree, which kills the tree.  When the beetle infests the tree, it is impossible to save it.  That is why so many trees have been killed from it.  Each beetle pair mate can produce about 75 eggs, which will then damage more trees when they grow bigger.  These beetles have proved to be very harmful to the nations forests and we are very passionate about reversing the damage they cause.
The best way to prevent the pine beetles from completely taking over the forest is by good forest management.  The mountain pine beetles like forests that are old, dense, and dying, so creating a forest with younger and healthier trees will help greatly.
The new saplings that we will help to plant will give the forest a line of defense against the beetle.

This tree is infested and as a result will probably die.
